Breck School beats St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad 4-3 after comeback scare

The Breck School Mustangs survived a determined comeback attempt by the St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad Spartans on the way to a 4-3 win.

Breck School took a 4-1 lead during the third period, only to have St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad storm back on a Nick Hoffman goal 8:31 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Mustangs were sparked by Matt Colford, who racked up one goal and one assist. Colford scored 1:11 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Breck School. Derek Wiitala provided the assist.

The Spartans were unable to stop Breck School from sending pucks towards the net, and the Mustangs eventually piled up 61 shots on goal. Penalties took their toll on Breck School, as its penalty kill unit let in two power play goals.

Breck School additionally got points from Thomas Lindstrom, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Mark Sharp also scored for Breck School. Other players who recorded assists for Breck School were Lucas McCormick, Jack o'Connor, and Michael Orke, who each chipped in one.

St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad was led by Ben Morris, who had two goals. Morris scored the first of his two goals at 16:08 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Breck School. Justin Jallen assisted on the tally. Morris' next tally made the score 4-2 Breck School with 12:39 left in the third period. Cameron Causey provided the assist. More assists for St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad came via Drew Blackmum and Tyler Seplak, who contributed one a piece.

Henry Johnson made 18 saves for the Mustangs on 21 shots. Breck School incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Spartans' Nick Anderson stopped 57 shots out of the 61 that he faced. St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major.
