Brainerd's Smith deadly on offense in 3-0 win against Roseau

Cole Smith had two goals to lead the Brainerd Warriors to a 3-0 victory over the Roseau Rams.

Smith scored at 5:09 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Brainerd and again while 7:52 into the second to make the score 2-0 Brainerd.

Captain Kyle Helmberger frustrated Roseau's offense all game, and stopped 26 shots en route to a shutout. Kyle Helmberger managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.15 prior to the game.

Brainerd stifled the Rams' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Warriors was steadier on the defensive front than they have been for much of this season. Brainerd averages 2.7 goals allowed per game.

Brainerd additionally got points from Logan Rivard, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Brainerd received assists from Jed Rusk, who had one and Jacob Ellingson, who had two.

Roseau's offense operated below it season average. The Rams put an average of 3.8 pucks into the net per game.

The Warriors totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Roseau's Ryan Anderson stopped 18 shots out of the 21 that he faced. The Rams incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
