Mora/Hinkley-Finlayson holds on for 5-3 win against Becker-Big Lake

The Becker-Big Lake Eagles tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Mora/Hinkley-Finlayson Mustangs held on for a 5-3 victory.

Mora/Hinkley-Finlayson took a 5-2 lead during the third period, only to have Becker-Big Lake storm back on a Taylor Giving goal 16:35 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

Troy Jones had two goals to lead the Mustangs to victory. Jones' tallies came on the power play at 7:31 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mora/Hinkley-Finlayson and on the power play 9:21 into the second to make the score 4-2 Mora/Hinkley-Finlayson.

Mora/Hinkley-Finlayson stifled the Eagles' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Mora/Hinkley-Finlayson also got points from Connor Cannon, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Thomas Pasillas also scored for Mora/Hinkley-Finlayson. In addition, Mora/Hinkley-Finlayson received assists from Justin Kneiszler, Greg Chmiel, and Hunter Wedin, who each chipped in one and Dylan Libra and Derek Graves, who contributed three a piece.

Becker-Big Lake's normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. The Eagles give up 2.4 goals per game.

Becker-Big Lake was helped by Elliott Darsow, who had one goal. Darsow scored 6:38 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Zach Veau provided the assist. Becker-Big Lake additionally got points from Veau, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Becker-Big Lake came via Ryan Houghton, who had one.

Tanner Baxley recorded 25 saves for the Mustangs. Mora/Hinkley-Finlayson incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Ben Manzke made 19 saves for the Eagles on 24 shots. Becker-Big Lake totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 0-for-3 on the power play.
