Marciniak nets hat trick, leads Alexandria to 12-0 win over Willmar

Ryan Marciniak netted a hat trick to lead the Alexandria Cardinals over the Willmar Cardinals, 12-0.

Marciniak notched his first tally 4:55 into the first period. He then added goals at 15:05 into the first and at 8:30 into the third.

Alexandria led 4-0 after the opening frame the first period and maintained a healthy margin after.

Ben Allen frustrated Willmar's offense all game, and stopped 27 shots en route to a shutout. Allen certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.03 entering the contest.

The Cardinals forced Cardinals' goaltenders to work without much rest, getting 42 shots and forcing 30 saves. Joey Benson made 16 stops and Jacob Anderson made 14. Alexandria stifled the Cardinals' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Cardinals' defensive effort looked to be improved. Alexandria averages 2.7 goals allowed per game. The Cardinals' goal total was higher than their season average. Alexandria has scored at the pace of 4.7 goals per game during the current campaign.

Alexandria also got points from Alec Wosepka, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Patrick Leary, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Jack Wensman, who also racked up one goal and three assists, Matt Resch, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Toby Helgeson, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Tom Schmidt, who also grabbed two goals and two assists. Alexandria also got a goal from Parker Revering as well. Other players who recorded assists for Alexandria were Kevin Finley, who had three and Christian Canavati and Andrew Rentschler, who each chipped in two.

Willmar's offense operated below it season average. The Cardinals average 5.5 goals per game. Penalties took their toll on Willmar, as its penalty kill unit let in three power play goals.

The Cardinals incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Cardinals totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 0-for-3 on the power play.
