Rochester John Marshall uses early goal to top Albert Lea, 3-1

Mitch King scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Rochester John Marshall Rockets held off the challenges of the Albert Lea Tigers in a tough 3-1 win.

Rochester John Marshall took over the lead for good with a goal by King at 2:01 in the first period. Alex Lovett provided the assist.

The Rockets were led by goalie Jacob Garvey, who finished with 25 saves while allowing one goal. Garvey managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.83 prior to the game.

Rochester John Marshall was paced by Hunter Heightland, who grabbed one goal. Heightland scored 2:10 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Rochester John Marshall. Gavin Sandwick picked up the assist.

Rochester John Marshall also got points from Lovett, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Rochester John Marshall came via Nick Paulson and Sam Broman, who each chipped in one.

Albert Lea was led by Van Zelenak, who scored the team's only goal. Zelenak scored on the power play 31 seconds into the third period to make the score 2-1 Rochester John Marshall.

The Rockets finished the contest with no penalties and went 0-for-0 with the man advantage. The Tigers' Garret Matz stopped 22 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Albert Lea avoided the penalty box for the entire game and scored one goal off of zero power plays.
