Sprague's big game bests Becker-Big Lake in 5-2 Achiever NE Academy winEagan East Rink Thu, Feb 14, 2013 Cory Sprague had two goals and one assist to lead the Achiever NE Academy Aces to a 5-2 victory over the Becker-Big Lake Eagles. Sprague found the back of the net 1:00 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Achiever NE Academy and again while 2:21 into the third to make the score 3-1 Achiever NE Academy.Achiever NE Academy's penalty kill excelled, as the Aces gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays. The Achiever NE Academy penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. The Aces had been averaging 12.0 minutes in penalties per game. Achiever NE Academy stifled Becker-Big Lake's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Achiever NE Academy additionally got points from Ryan Finnegan, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Baron Thompson, who also had one goal and one assist. Brennan McGuire also scored for Achiever NE Academy. Other players who recorded assists for Achiever NE Academy were Zach Black and Matt Minish, who each chipped in one. The Eagles put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Aces to score on any of their four power plays. Becker-Big Lake was helped by Zach Veau, who registered one goal. Veau scored 1:37 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Achiever NE Academy. Jason Tonneslan assisted on the tally. Justin Morrow made 25 saves for the Eagles on 30 shots. Becker-Big Lake incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
