Cleveland survives Toledo comeback, wins 5-4Team Toledo Ice House Fri, Oct 26, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Toledo Cherokee tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-4. Cleveland took a 5-3 lead during the third period, only to have Toledo storm back on a Brody Duncan goal 19:27 into the third period to pull to one goal down. With three goals and one assist between them, Cameron Dimmitt and Pat Smith teamed up to power the Jr. Lumberjacks' offense. Dimmitt registered two goals and one assist and Smith also added one goal. Cleveland's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Toledo power plays. The Jr. Lumberjacks kept the Cherokee's goalie busy throughout the game, and Nathan Miller made 26 saves on 31 shots. Cleveland also got a goal from Andrew Mitch as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cleveland were Scott Cuthrell, who had two and Ryan Wandzel, Brad Hepler, Mike Palasics, Andrew Sprouse, Jared Johnson, Fred West, and Dallas Szustak, who contributed one a piece. Toledo was led by Kevin Gregory, who had two goals. Gregory scored the first of his two goals at 14:29 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Toledo. Kyler Omey assisted on the tally. Gregory's next tally made the score 3-1 Toledo with 8:52 left in the second period. Zachary Armstrong picked up the assist. Connor Crowe also scored for Toledo. In addition, Toledo received assists from Jake Manders, Tyler Zalecki, Donnie Nagle, and Austin Turner, who each chipped in one. David Heflin recorded 23 saves for Cleveland. The Jr. Lumberjacks incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Cherokee incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
