Trevor Voelker scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Queen City Steam picked up the extra point in a 5-4 (5-4 SO) win over the Twin City Steel. The shootout featured 12 attempts between both teams. Twin City got shootout goals from Nick Cerrato, Tom Bartel, Brody Peterson, and Chase Myers-Beck. Queen City also got shootout goals from Nick Brusa, Jonah Hoover, Henry Smith, and Eric Woodward.The Steam got the win with help from a great game by Voelker, who had one goal and one assist. Voelker scored 4:49 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Queen City. Erik Zakariasson provided the assist. Queen City pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 24 penalty minutes. The Steel were unable to stop the Steam from sending pucks towards the net, and Queen City eventually piled up 51 shots on goal. The Steam outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Queen City averages 2.6 goals per contest. The Steam were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to two goals off of nine man advantages. Queen City was led by Voelker, who finished with one goal and one assist. Queen City also got a goal from Paul McAvoy as well. In addition, Queen City received assists from Trevor Knoll, Woodward, Robert Gentile, and Emil Sundstrom, who each chipped in one. Twin City's offense rang up 35 shots on the Steam's net. The Steel were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 28 penalty minutes. Twin City got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. The Steel were helped by Myers-Beck, who had one goal. Myers-Beck scored on the power play 7:07 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Queen City. Twin City had gotten the advantage when Queen City's McAvoy was sent off for high sticking. AJ Merritt picked up the assist. Isaac Hale also scored for Twin City. Other players who recorded assists for Twin City were Bartel, Marvin Powell, Evan Anderson, Shane Hill, Zach Randell, and Peterson, who contributed one a piece. The Steam's Zak Kemble stopped 31 shots out of the 35 that he faced. Joey Garapolo made 46 saves for the Steel on 50 shots. Twin City registered one goal on six power play opportunities. For the Steel, Kegan Storjohann was ejected from the game.
