Battle Creek survives Peoria comeback, wins 2-1Troy Sports 1 Mon, Feb 18, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Peoria Mustangs tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Battle Creek Revolution held on for a 2-1 victory. Battle Creek took a 2-0 lead during the second period, only to have Peoria storm back on a Cory Kettler goal 3:15 into the third period to pull to one goal down. The Revolution were led by goalie Hughes, who finished with 40 saves while allowing one goal. Hughes certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 5.41 entering the contest. Battle Creek was sparked by Zach Rees, who tallied one goal. Rees scored on the power play 11:17 into the second period to make the score Battle Creek. The Revolution had gained a power play chance when Austin Wisely was whistled for cross checking. Kyle Ward assisted on the tally. Battle Creek stifled the Mustangs' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Battle Creek also got a goal from Tevor Clark as well. Other players who recorded assists for Battle Creek were Joey Lioy and Forest Walbeck, who contributed one a piece. The Revolution were unable to stop Peoria from sending pucks towards the net, and the Mustangs eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. More assists for Peoria came via Nikolas Sakellaropoulos, who had one. Battle Creek incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Peoria's Michael Parda stopped 24 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Mustangs incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
