Queen City falls apart in second, loses to North Iowa, 7-0

The North Iowa Bulls scored five goals in the second period to pull away from the Queen City Steam and clinch a 7-0 win.

Timothy Santopoalo was all over the ice for North Iowa, as he had two goals in the win. Santopoalo scored at 16:25 into the first period to make the score 1-0 North Iowa and again while 4:13 into the third to make the score 7-0 North Iowa.

The Bulls managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. North Iowa wound up below its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. The Bulls' defense was surprisingly good. North Iowa allows 2.7 goals per game. Queen City was unable to stop the Bulls from sending pucks towards the net, and North Iowa eventually piled up 57 shots on goal.

North Iowa also got a goal from Jake Johnson as well. Other players who recorded assists for North Iowa were Ron Lindgren, Tyler Richison, Patrick Sivets, Andrew Halama, and Preston Blanek, who contributed one a piece and Connor Langfield and James Hughes, who each chipped in two.

The Steam did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Queen City puts an average of 2.9 pucks into the net per game. The Steam's offense were handcuffed by the Bulls' defensive play, and Queen City managed only 12 shots on goal during the game.

Matthew Bartels recorded 12 saves for North Iowa. The Bulls registered one goal on four power play opportunities. The Steam's Matt McLaughlin stopped 50 shots out of the 57 that he faced. Queen City incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
