Metro uses shootout to best Peoria, 4-3 (2-0 SO)

Matt Stirling netted the deciding goal for the Metro Jets in the shootout as Jets prevailed over the Peoria Mustangs, 4-3 (2-0 SO).

The two teams needed eight turns to complete the shootout. Metro also got a shootout goal from Stirling.

The Jets saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Metro made the score 3-1 on a goal by Stirling at 6:16 in the third period. Peoria evened things up at 3-3 on a goal by Austin Wisely at 11:34 in the third period.

Stirling was all over the ice for the Jets, as he grabbed two goals in the win.

Metro excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Jets forced the Mustangs goalie Matthew Pinel to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

Metro was led by Stirling, who racked up two goals. Stirling scored the first of his two goals at 58 seconds into the third period to make the score 2-1 Metro. Stirling's next tally made the score Metro with 13:44 left in the third period. Michael Lawrence provided the assist. Metro also got a goal from Jeff Monfils as well. Other players who recorded assists for Metro were Josh Hosking and Mike Gambino, who each chipped in one.

Peoria's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Metro power plays. The Mustangs' offense rang up 44 shots on the Jets' net.

Peoria was helped by Cody Lichtenvoort, who had one goal. Lichtenvoort scored 2:15 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Brennan Anderson picked up the assist. Peoria additionally got points from Anderson, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Peoria received assists from Cory Kettler, who had one and Alexander Turin, who had two.

Trevor Kalinowski made 41 saves for Metro on 44 shots. The Jets incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Pinel recorded 34 saves for the Mustangs. Peoria incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
