Three Rivers falls apart in second, loses to Alexandria, 8-1

The Alexandria Blizzard used a three-goal second period to put away the Three Rivers Vengeance, 8-1.

Ian Eckland was all over the ice for Alexandria, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Eckland scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 9:03 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Alexandria. The Blizzard had gotten the advantage when Three Rivers' Jonah Hoover was sent off for slashing. Austin Rudnick picked up the assist. Eckland's next tally on the power play made the score 2-1 Alexandria with 8:43 left in the first period. Alexandria earned a power play opportunity when Cory Myers was put in the box for checking from behind. Rudnick provided the assist.

The Blizzard were led by goalie Kyle Miller, who finished with 26 saves while allowing one goal. Miller certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.07 entering the contest.

The Alexandria penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and three majors for 55 minutes in penalty time. The Blizzard had been averaging 27.0 minutes in penalties per game. Alexandria's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Three Rivers power plays. The Vengeance were unable to stop the Blizzard from sending pucks towards the net, and Alexandria eventually piled up 50 shots on goal. The Blizzard found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Alexandria averages 3.7 goals per game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

Alexandria also got points from Chayce Coenen, who also registered one goal and one assist, Garrett Skinner, who also had one goal and two assists, Mick Dhein, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Joe Anderson, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Alexandria also got a goal from Ritchie Brown as well. More assists for Alexandria came via Karson Kuntz, who had two and Bryce Mitzel, Tanner Duffney, Spencer Peratalo, Zach Hill, and Ricky Seidel, who contributed one a piece.

Three Rivers racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 12 minors and two majors for 54 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 33.0 minutes per game the Vengeance had been spending in the box. Three Rivers could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Vengeance average 3.8 goals per game.

Three Rivers was led by Nico Vecchio, who scored the team's only goal. Vecchio scored 9:16 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Alex Berardinelli picked up the assist.

The Blizzard registered four goals on 11 power play opportunities. For Alexandria, Levi Erickson was ejected from the game. Nate Mortland rejected 42 shots on goal for the Vengeance. Team's Myers and Michael Straub were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
