Flint wins tough contest against Queen City, 4-2

The Flint Jr. Generals gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Queen City Steam.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Trevor Benaglio's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Flint was paced by Benaglio, who racked up one goal and one assist. Benaglio scored 2:32 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Flint. Jacob Howie provided the assist.

The Jr. Generals kept Queen City's goalie busy throughout the game, and Zak Kemble made 32 saves on 36 shots.

Eric Jones also scored for Flint. More assists for Flint came via Timothy Conser and Casey Barile, who each chipped in one.

The Steam's offense rang up 31 shots on Flint's net.

Queen City was led by Trevor Knoll, who registered one goal and one assist. Knoll scored on the power play 7:13 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Queen City. The Steam had gotten the advantage when the Jr. Generals' Adrain Larsson was sent off for high sticking. Taylor Penman assisted on the tally. Queen City also got a goal from Thomas Clayton as well. In addition, Queen City received assists from Emil Sundstrom, who had one.

Anders Franke made 29 saves for Flint on 31 shots. The Jr. Generals incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Queen City incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
