Minnesota wins tough contest against Michigan, 4-2

The Minnesota Flying Aces and the Michigan Mountain Cats were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Minnesota made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Jared Sprink secured the win for the Flying Aces with a goal in the second period.

Michigan's power play was ineffective against Minnesota's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Flying Aces were paced by Sprink, who grabbed one goal. Sprink scored on the power play 18:31 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Minnesota. Minnesota earned a power play opportunity when Jacob Ulicny was put in the box for high sticking. Billy Wagner picked up the assist.

The Flying Aces excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Minnesota forced the Mountain Cats goalie Ian Dvorak to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots.

Minnesota additionally got points from Alex Yde, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Minnesota also got a goal from Andre Pison as well. In addition, Minnesota received assists from Tate Sykes, Chase Myers-Beck, Patrick Kegley, and Blake Williams, who contributed one a piece.

Penalties took their toll on Michigan, as its penalty kill unit let in two power play goals.

The Mountain Cats were helped by Ethan Baker, who had one goal. Baker scored 2:16 into the second period to make the score 1-1. John Arms also scored for Michigan.

The Flying Aces' Christan Michalik stopped 23 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Minnesota incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Dvorak recorded 39 saves for Michigan. The Mountain Cats incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
