North Iowa uses fast start to beat Metro, 9-0

The Metro Jets fell behind early, and the North Iowa Bulls kept piling on the points on the way to a 9-0 victory.

Aaron Davis spearheaded the defensive effort for North Iowa, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 37 saves for the shutout. Davis managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.0 prior to the game.

Matt Kroska was all over the ice for the Bulls, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Kroska scored the first of his two goals at 9:15 into the first period to make the score 2-0 North Iowa. Eric Behrend provided the assist. Kroska's next tally made the score 8-0 North Iowa with 7:39 left in the second period. Timothy Santopoalo picked up the assist.

North Iowa stifled Metro's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Bulls' defense was surprisingly good. North Iowa gives up 2.7 goals on average per game. The Bulls kept the Jets' goalie busy throughout the game, and Austin Julvezan made 54 saves on 63 shots. North Iowa surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Bulls average 5.6 goals per game.

North Iowa additionally got points from John Forseth, who also had four goals and one assist to lead the team in points and Taylor Brown, who also racked up one goal and one assist. North Iowa also got a goal from Patrick Sivets as well. In addition, North Iowa received assists from Chancie Hanson, Matthew Kaitchuck, Ron Lindgren, Tyler Burg, Tony Paulson, and Bryan Broders, who each chipped in one and Kyle Krueger and Andrew Halama, who contributed two a piece.

Metro's offense operated below it season average. The Jets put an average of 3.7 pucks into the net per game. North Iowa was unable to stop Metro from sending pucks towards the net, and the Jets eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

The Bulls totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Metro incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
