Toledo uses fast start to beat Battle Creek, 10-2

The Toledo Cherokee opened up a four-goal lead after the first period and did not look back en route to a 10-2 over the Battle Creek Revolution.

Toledo got the win thanks to a great game by Jordan Prewitt, who had four goals and two assists. Prewitt notched his first tally 9:38 into the first period. He then added goals at 10:09 into the first, at 19:33 into the first, and at 14:00 into the third.

Battle Creek was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as the Cherokee were able to score seven times while on the power play.

Toledo made Revolution's goalies to work between the pipes, totaling 64 shots and forcing 54 saves. Hughes made 45 stops and Trevor Beck made nine. The Cherokee outdid their season average for goals scored. Toledo averages 3.7 goals per game. The Cherokee's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Toledo additionally got points from Brett Podgorski, who also finished with two goals and one assist and Ben Torchia, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Toledo also got a goal from Brody Duncan as well. In addition, Toledo received assists from Parker Hack, who had three, Blake Podgorski, who had four, Kevin Gregory, Zachary Armstrong, Donnie Nagle, Jordan Fogarty, and Connor Crowe, who each chipped in one, and Jake Manders and Brandon Layman, who contributed two a piece.

The Revolution forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 21 minors and one major for 77 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game Battle Creek had been spending in the box.

The Revolution were led by Stephen Comperchi, who registered one goal. Comperchi scored on the power play 13:15 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Toledo. Battle Creek had taken the advantage when Toledo's Torchia got sent off for boarding. Jacob Rosek assisted on the tally. Kyle Ward also scored for Battle Creek. More assists for Battle Creek came via Joshua Kimber, who had one.

Josh Cliff recorded 20 saves for the Cherokee. Toledo incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. The Revolution registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Battle Creek ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Hughes was ejected from the game.
