Girmaudo's hat trick boosts University at Albany over Southern Connecticut, 7-2

Dan Girmaudo netted a hat trick to lead the University at Albany Great Danes over the Southern Connecticut Owls, 7-2.

Girmaudo's first goal came 19:25 into the second period. He then added goals at 19:37 into the second and at 5:36 into the third.

Southern Connecticut's power play was ineffective against University at Albany's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Great Danes forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 13 minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game University at Albany had been spending in the box. The Great Danes bested their season scoring average. This season, University at Albany averages 3.7 goals per contest.

University at Albany also got points from Dave Defranco, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Benny Ciliotta, who also finished with two goals and one assist. University at Albany also got a goal from Ryan Phillip as well. In addition, University at Albany received assists from Sean Duffy, who had two and Tyler Loughery, Ryan Mahoney, Chris Mortimer, and Jonhathan DeMeo, who contributed one a piece.

The Owls were often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. Southern Connecticut had been averaging 9.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Owls stifled the Great Danes' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Southern Connecticut was led by Steven Rosenkrantz, who finished with one goal and one assist. Rosenkrantz scored 2:08 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Southern Connecticut. Joe Innamorato assisted on the tally. Corey Shea also scored for Southern Connecticut. Other players who recorded assists for Southern Connecticut were mike pizzo, who had one.

University at Albany's Thomas Caswell stopped 25 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Great Danes registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. Mike Federico made 23 saves for the Owls on 30 shots.
