Farmingdale State's John deadly on offense in 4-1 win against University at Albany

Menicino John had two goals to lead the Farmingdale State Rams to a 4-1 victory over the University at Albany Great Danes.

John scored at 5:09 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Farmingdale State and again while 11:43 into the second to make the score 3-1 Farmingdale State.

University at Albany was stymied by Farmingdale State netminder Bryan Clemens, who stopped 36 shots during the victory. Clemens managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.91 prior to the game.

The Rams put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Great Danes to score on any of their three power plays. Farmingdale State's offense rang up 42 shots on University at Albany's net.

Farmingdale State additionally got points from Mike Leprine, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Farmingdale State also got a goal from Kyle Catalano as well. In addition, Farmingdale State received assists from Joe Petrizzo, Michael Goldstein, Alex Conover, and Matthew Johnson, who contributed one a piece.

The Great Danes' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Farmingdale State power plays. University at Albany was held below its usual level of production. The Great Danes average 3.3 goals per game. University at Albany forced the Rams goalie Clemens to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. The Great Danes' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as University at Albany finished with 16 penalty minutes.

The Great Danes were led by Ryan Mahoney, who scored the team's only goal. Mahoney scored 5:26 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Farmingdale State. Gavin Grogan provided the assist.

Farmingdale State incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Thomas Caswell recorded 38 saves for University at Albany.
