Penn State Brandywine squeaks by Fredonia State University, 5-3Warwick Ice Rink 2 Sun, Nov 18, 2012 In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Penn State Brandywine NITTANY LIONS escaped with a 5-3 victory over Fredonia State University. No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Billy Gregg at 8:06 of the third period. Gregg had a great game for Penn State Brandywine, netting two goals. The NITTANY LIONS pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 57 penalty minutes. Fredonia State University was unable to stop Penn State Brandywine from sending pucks towards the net, and the NITTANY LIONS eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. The defensemen of Penn State Brandywine were also effective in Fredonia State University's zone, and came away with two goals. Frank Fourney also scored for Penn State Brandywine. Other players who recorded assists for Penn State Brandywine were Joe Naselli, who had two and Mike Mcgaey and Sam Impagliazzo, who contributed one a piece. Fredonia State University had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on 10 chances. Fredonia State University could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 68 minutes in penalties during the game. Fredonia State University was led by Doug Clayton, who racked up two goals. Clayton scored the first of his two goals short handed at 18:30 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Fredonia State University played down a man on Cameron Corsaro's fighting (under five mins). Clayton's next tally short handed made the score 3-3 with 14:55 left in the third period. Fredonia State University had gotten the advantage when the NITTANY LIONS' Kyle Laughlin was sent off for cross checking. Mike McCarthy assisted on the tally. Fredonia State University also got a goal from Tyler Hagan as well. More assists for Fredonia State University came via Jed McIntosh and Jordan Grills, who each chipped in one. Andrew Heiber recorded 27 saves for Penn State Brandywine. The NITTANY LIONS registered three goals on 11 power play opportunities. Garrett Nelson made 26 saves for Fredonia State University on 31 shots.
