Southern Connecticut holds on for 7-5 win against Loyola University

Loyola University tried to dig itself out of a four-goal hole, but the Southern Connecticut Owls held on for a 7-5 victory.

A goal by Joe Innamorato put Southern Connecticut up 7-3 in the third period, but Loyola University pulled to within two on Colin Freer's tally 19:00 into the third period.

The Owls made Loyola University's goaltenders to work between the pipes, racking up 34 shots and forcing 27 saves. Jon Krober made 16 stops and Nick Fuirita made 11. Southern Connecticut surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Owls have scored at the pace of 4.3 goals per game during the current campaign.

Southern Connecticut also got points from Steven Rosenkrantz, who also registered one goal and five assists to lead the team in points. Blake Biancamano also scored for Southern Connecticut. In addition, Southern Connecticut received assists from mike pizzo and Tyler Rose, who contributed one a piece.

Loyola University managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Loyola University ended up below its season average of 8.0 penalty minutes per game.

Loyola University also got a goal from Trevor Agostino as well. Other players who recorded assists for Loyola University were Davis Agostino, who had two and Mike Green, mike tengila, and Jon Barr, who each chipped in one.

Southern Connecticut's Shayne OBrien stopped 23 shots out of the 28 that he faced. The Owls incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Loyola University registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
