Gardner's goals lift Fairfield University to 5-2 victory over Fredonia State University

Behind a great game by Steven Gardner, who had two goals, the Fairfield University Stags defeated Fredonia State University, 5-2.

Gardner found the back of the net 5:29 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fairfield University and again while 12:15 into the second to make the score 3-2 Fairfield University.

The Fairfield University penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The Stags had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game. Fairfield University excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Stags' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Fairfield University also got points from Patrick Breed, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Peter Lanigan also scored for Fairfield University. Other players who recorded assists for Fairfield University were Matthew Viskovich, Michael Masters, Colin Norton, and Matt Knightly, who contributed one a piece.

Fredonia State University was helped by Cameron Corsaro, who grabbed one goal. Corsaro scored 12:31 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Fairfield University. Doug Clayton assisted on the tally. Fredonia State University also got a goal from Alex Garfield as well. More assists for Fredonia State University came via Brian Marrano, who had one.

Fairfield University's Ralph Dispigna stopped 21 shots out of the 23 that he faced. The Stags registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. Christian Cianflone rejected 19 shots on goal for Fredonia State University. Fredonia State University ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major.
