Penn State Brandywine survives U.N.C. Willmigton comeback, wins 4-3ACHA Rink Sat, Nov 17, 2012 U.N.C. Willmigton tried its best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Penn State Brandywine NITTANY LIONS would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3. Penn State Brandywine made the score 4-2 on a goal by Tom Naselli at 17:15 in the third period, and U.N.C. Willmigton got as close as 4-3 when Bob Sprankle scored 18:42 into the third period. The NITTANY LIONS were led by Naselli, who tallied one goal. Penn State Brandywine stifled U.N.C. Willmigton's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. U.N.C. Willmigton was unable to stop the NITTANY LIONS from sending pucks towards the net, and Penn State Brandywine eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. The NITTANY LIONS got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. Penn State Brandywine additionally got points from Sean Buchanan, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Penn State Brandywine also got a goal from Matt Freiburg as well. In addition, Penn State Brandywine received assists from Russ Lorring, Brandon Benn, and Bill McGugan, who contributed one a piece. U.N.C. Willmigton put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Penn State Brandywine to score on any of its three power plays. U.N.C. Willmigton came via Kevin Mullaney and Blair Bigwood, who each chipped in one. Perchetti rejected 39 shots on goal for Penn State Brandywine. The NITTANY LIONS ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. U.N.C. Willmigton's Calvin Stone stopped 33 shots out of the 37 that he faced. U.N.C. Willmigton incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
