Penn State Brandywine penalty kill dominates in 5-2 defeat of Fairfield University

The Penn State Brandywine NITTANY LIONS, which found themselves down a man often, weathered the Fairfield University Stags' power play opportunities and emerged with a 5-2 victory.

Penn State Brandywine was led by Russ Lorring, who racked up one goal and one assist. Lorring scored 13:00 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Penn State Brandywine. Matt Freiburg assisted on the tally.

The NITTANY LIONS were often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. Penn State Brandywine had been averaging 17.0 minutes in penalties per game. The NITTANY LIONS stifled Fairfield University's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Penn State Brandywine forced the Stags goalie Ralph Dispigna to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Penn State Brandywine also got a goal from Kyle Laughlin as well. In addition, Penn State Brandywine received assists from Billy Gregg, Frank Fourney, and Mike McGuire, who contributed one a piece.

Fairfield University put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the NITTANY LIONS to score on any of their five power plays. The Stags kept Penn State Brandywine's goalie busy throughout the game, and Andrew Heiber made 35 saves on 37 shots.

Fairfield University was helped by Billy Kamenidies, who tallied one goal. Kamenidies scored 13:22 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Fairfield University. Steven Gardner also scored for Fairfield University. More assists for Fairfield University came via Patrick Breed and Colin Norton, who each chipped in one.

Ralph Dispigna made 26 saves for the Stags on 31 shots. Fairfield University incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
