U.N.C. Willmigton holds on for 4-3 win against Penn State Brandywine

The Penn State Brandywine NITTANY LIONS tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but U.N.C. Willmigton held on for a 4-3 victory.

U.N.C. Willmigton made the score 4-2 on a goal by Kevin Mullaney at 11:41 in the third period, and Penn State Brandywine got as close as 4-3 when Drew Haber scored 18:56 into the third period.

U.N.C. Willmigton was paced on offense by Blair Bigwood and Mullaney, who combined for four points. Bigwood tallied two goals and Mullaney also added one goal and one assist.

U.N.C. Willmigton excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances.

U.N.C. Willmigton additionally got points from Bob Sprankle, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Mullaney, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, U.N.C. Willmigton received assists from Joe Calahan, CJ Rizzo, and Bill Frantz, who each chipped in one.

Mike McGuire also scored for Penn State Brandywine. Other players who recorded assists for Penn State Brandywine were Joe Naselli, who had two and Brandon Benn and Jay Mandell, who contributed one a piece.

Calvin Stone made 27 saves for U.N.C. Willmigton on 30 shots. U.N.C. Willmigton incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Andrew Heiber rejected 23 shots on goal for the NITTANY LIONS. Penn State Brandywine incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
