Farmingdale State wins tough contest against Southern Connecticut, 5-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Farmingdale State Rams escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Southern Connecticut Owls.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Matthew Johnson at 6:47 of the third period.

Johnson had a great game for Farmingdale State, netting two goals.

The Rams forced Southern Connecticut goalie Mike Santini to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots.

Farmingdale State also got points from Menicino John, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Farmingdale State also got a goal from Donato Carbone as well. More assists for Farmingdale State came via Justin Von Wieding, who had two and Kyle McEvaddy, Jack Radin, and Joe Mione, who each chipped in one.

The Owls put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Farmingdale State to score on any of its six power plays. Southern Connecticut's offense rang up 36 shots on the Rams' net.

The Owls were helped by Corey Shea, who racked up one goal. Shea scored 4:19 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Matt Hickman assisted on the tally. Joe Innamorato also scored for Southern Connecticut. Other players who recorded assists for Southern Connecticut were Justin MacGregor, who had one.

Bryan Clemens made 33 saves for Farmingdale State on 36 shots. The Rams incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Santini rejected 39 shots on goal for Southern Connecticut. The Owls incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
