Missoula blows out Glacier, 10-2Glacier Ice Rink Fri, Feb 22, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Missoula Maulers had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 10-2 win over Glacier. Joey Sundgren was all over the ice for Missoula, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Sundgren scored 6:08 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Missoula. Zach Paisley assisted on the tally. Glacier's power play was ineffective against the Maulers' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. Missoula forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game the Maulers had been spending in the box. Missoula made Glacier's netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, taking 41 shots and forcing 31 saves. Mitchell Tyson made 15 stops and Tyler Huberty made 16. The Maulers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. Missoula bested its season scoring average. The Maulers average 4.4 goals per game. Missoula additionally got points from Paisley, who also had three goals and two assists, Paigg Maul, who also grabbed one goal and four assists to lead the team in points, and Anders Nord, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Missoula also had goals scored by Jordan Wheatley, who had two and Viktor Steenson and Cody Ogrin, who each put in one. In addition, Missoula received assists from Niko Pukkila and Brett Mathews, who contributed one a piece and Dylan Chase, Jason Henry, and Will Stawinski, who each chipped in two. The Glacier penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and two majors for 70 minutes in penalty time. Glacier had been averaging 34.0 minutes in penalties per game. Glacier struggled on the penalty kill, allowing Missoula to score four power play goals on seven chances. Glacier was led by John Tesarek, who racked up two goals. Tesarek scored the first of his two goals at 2:50 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Missoula. Tucker Spooner provided the assist. Tesarek's next tally made the score 5-2 Missoula with 4:25 left in the second period. Glacier was on a disadvantage when Andreas Persson went off the ice for interference. Sebastian Adnell picked up the assist. Cody Janzen recorded 24 saves for the Maulers. For Missoula, Stawinski was ejected from the game. Team's Travis Redman and Kyle Watne were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
