Horwood's hat trick boosts DURHAM WEST over AURORA, 6-0

Laura Horwood netted a hat trick to lead DURHAM WEST over AURORA, 6-0.

Horwood's first goal came 2:36 into the first period. He then added goals at 14:49 into the second and at 3:43 into the third.

DURHAM WEST pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 14 penalty minutes.

DURHAM WEST made AURORA's goalies to work all game long, taking 36 shots and forcing 30 saves. Paula Voorheis made 17 stops and Taylor Lemmon made 13. DURHAM WEST excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. DURHAM WEST outdid its season average for goals scored. DURHAM WEST has scored at the pace of 3.4 goals per game during the current campaign.

DURHAM WEST also got points from Dana Fairbarn, who also racked up one goal and two assists and Dakota Waites, who also had one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Stephanie Cooper also scored for DURHAM WEST. Other players who recorded assists for DURHAM WEST were Brittany Kucera (PU), Samantha McKenzie, and Taylor Edwards, who each chipped in one and Carly Marchment (C) and Brittany St. James, who contributed two a piece.

AURORA could not produce up to it normal offensive output. AURORA puts an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. AURORA's defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. AURORA gives up 2.3 goals per game. AURORA could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game.

Jackie Rochefort rejected 20 shots on goal for DURHAM WEST. DURHAM WEST registered two goals on 12 power play opportunities.
