AURORA beats BARRIE 5-2 as Veerman(A) gets hat trick

Brianna Veerman(A) netted a hat trick to lead AURORA over BARRIE, 5-2.

Veerman(A) notched her first tally 3:42 into the first period. He then added goals at 4:54 into the second and at 6:58 into the third.

AURORA kept BARRIE's goalie busy throughout the game, and Sarah Stephens made 36 saves on 41 shots. AURORA found itself short handed often, totaling 20 penalty minutes and allowing six power plays.

AURORA also got points from Caroline DeBruin(A), who also finished with one goal and one assist. AURORA also got a goal from Courtney Brindamour-McClure(A) as well. Other players who recorded assists for AURORA were Jessica Gillham, who had three and Jacky Normandeau, Alie Brindamour-McClure(A), Lauren Cavarzan, Kayla Jardine, and Shayla Hele, who each chipped in one.

BARRIE forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. BARRIE surpassed its season average of 11.0 penalty minutes per game. BARRIE's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. BARRIE gives up 2.2 goals per game.

BARRIE was led by Laura McKenzie, who registered one goal and one assist. McKenzie scored 3:01 into the third period to make the score 3-2 AURORA. Alora Keers (A) assisted on the tally. Courtney Sheedy also scored for BARRIE. More assists for BARRIE came via Alex Bond, who had one.

Taylor Lemmon made 26 saves for AURORA on 28 shots. AURORA registered two goals on six power play opportunities. For BARRIE, Keers (A) was ejected from the game.
