Fort Worth clinches tight 1-0 victory against Bloomington

Grossinger Motors Arena    Fri, Mar 01, 2013

The Fort Worth Brahmas and the Bloomington Blaze played 60 tight minutes of hockey, but in the end it was Fort Worth that came away with a 1-0 victory.

Austin Mayer and Phil Fox picked up the assist on the deciding goal.

The Brahmas were led by Brendon Hodge, who had one goal. Hodge scored on the power play 4:13 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Fort Worth. Fort Worth had gained a power play chance when Nello Ferrara was whistled for tripping. Mayer provided the assist.

The Brahmas' defensive effort looked to be improved. Fort Worth averages 2.7 goals allowed per game. The Brahmas relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as John Snowden, Mayer and Fox took 16 of the team's 31 shots.

Bloomington could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Blaze average 3.6 goals per game. The 24 shots that Bloomington put on net surpassed the Blaze's average of 20.0 shots per game this season.

Bloomington was led by David Gilbert, who took five shots.

Fort Worth's Kristofer Westblom stopped 24 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The Brahmas totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Ross MacKinnon made 30 saves for the Blaze on 31 shots. Bloomington totaled 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
