Bloomington rolls over Quad City, 6-2

The Bloomington Blaze were firing on all cylinders against the Quad City Mallards, and when the final buzzer sounded Blaze emerged with a 6-2 win.

Quad City's power play was ineffective against Bloomington's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Blaze were led by Jon Booras, who racked up one goal and one assist. Booras scored 9:14 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Bloomington. Brett Lutes provided the assist.

Bloomington found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Blaze average 3.7 goals per contest. Bloomington relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as David Gilbert, Booras and Dan Barczuk took 18 of the team's 34 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Bloomington also got points from Gilbert, who also had one goal and one assist. Bloomington also had goals scored by Leo Thomas, who had two and Leland Fidler and Nicolas Rioux, who scored one goal each. More assists for Bloomington came via Kyle Bochek, who had two and Steve Makway, Travis Granbois, and Sean OConnor, who each chipped in one.

By firing 40 shots on goal, the Mallards exceeded the 23.8 shots they average per game this year.

Quad City was helped by Shayne Toporowski, who grabbed one goal. Toporowski scored on the power play 16:21 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Bloomington. The Mallards earned a power play opportunity when Thomas was put in the box for slashing. Anthony Perdicaro assisted on the tally. Mike Hellyer also scored for Quad City. In addition, Quad City received assists from Obi Aduba, Mike Stinziani, and Matt Duffy, who contributed one a piece.

Ross MacKinnon recorded 38 saves for the Blaze. Bloomington incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. John Murray made 28 saves for Quad City on 33 shots. The Mallards incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
