Rapid City wins tough contest against Bloomington, 6-4

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, Rapid City escaped with a 6-4 victory over the Bloomington Blaze.

Rapid City gained the winning advantage on a goal by Jesse Schultz 3:00 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Schultz was all over the ice for Rapid City, as he registered two goals in the win.

Rapid City outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, Rapid City averages 2.6 goals per contest. By firing 34 shots on goal, Rapid City exceeded the 26.8 shots it averages per game this year.

Rapid City also got points from Jared Brown, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Dan Gendur, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Winston Day Chief also scored for Rapid City. More assists for Rapid City came via Scott Wray, who had two, Riley Weselowski, who had three, and Jeff Lee, Damian Surma, Jordan Behler, and Jamie VanderVeeken, who each chipped in one.

Rapid City was unable to stop Bloomington from sending pucks towards the net, and the Blaze eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

Bloomington was helped by Nello Ferrara, who grabbed one goal. Ferrara scored 16:51 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Kyle Bochek provided the assist. Bloomington additionally got points from Bochek, who also had one goal and one assist and Jon Booras, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Bloomington also got a goal from Brett Lutes as well. Other players who recorded assists for Bloomington were Nicolas Rioux, Steve Makway, Matt Puntureri, and Jeremy Gates, who contributed one a piece.

Tim Boron rejected 30 shots on goal for Rapid City. Rapid City incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Pier-Olivier Pelletier recorded 28 saves for the Blaze. Bloomington incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
