Rapid City uses early goal to top Bloomington, 2-1

Jeff Lee gave Rapid City the lead in the first period, and the Bloomington Blaze was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 2-1.

Rapid City took over the lead for good with a goal by Lee at 5:56 in the first period. Rusty Masters assisted on the tally.

Rapid City was sparked by Winston Day Chief, who racked up one goal. Day Chief scored on the power play 2:50 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Rapid City. Rapid City had gained a power play chance when Travis Granbois was whistled for hooking. Jamie VanderVeeken picked up the assist.

Rapid City's offense was clicking better than usual and put 32 shots on goal during the game, better than the 24.6 shots per game it averages.

In addition, Rapid City received assists from Jordan Behler and Scott Brannon, who contributed one a piece.

Bloomington's offense operated below it season average. The Blaze average 3.7 goals per game. The 22 shots that Bloomington put on net surpassed the Blaze's average of 19.5 shots per game this season.

Bloomington was led by Dan Barczuk, who scored the team's only goal. Barczuk scored on the power play 12:10 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Rapid City. The Blaze had gotten the advantage when Rapid City's Behler was sent off for high sticking. Nicolas Rioux provided the assist.

Danny Battochio rejected 21 shots on goal for Rapid City. Rapid City incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Bloomington's Pier-Olivier Pelletier stopped 30 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Blaze incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
