Gilbert lifts Bloomington over Quad City, 3-1

David Gilbert had two goals to lead the Bloomington Blaze to a 3-1 victory over the Quad City Mallards.

Gilbert scored on the power play at 9:10 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Bloomington and again while 19:22 into the third to make the score 3-1 Bloomington.

Bloomington's Pier-Olivier Pelletier was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 25 saves and let only one puck past him. Pelletier certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.44 entering the contest.

The Blaze put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Quad City to score on any of its three power plays. Bloomington put 38 shots on net during the contest, more than the 23.2 it averages per game.

Dan Barczuk also scored for Bloomington. In addition, Bloomington received assists from Brett Lutes, who had two and Nicolas Rioux, Aaron Dawson, Jon Booras, and Matthew Larke, who contributed one a piece.

The Mallards did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Quad City puts an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game. The Mallards could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 18 minutes in penalties during the game.

Quad City was led by Matt Boyd, who scored the team's only goal. Boyd scored 8:45 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Obi Aduba provided the assist.

The Blaze incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. John Murray rejected 35 shots on goal for the Mallards.
