Denver hangs on, beats Bloomington 4-2

The Denver Cutthroats took the lead against the Bloomington Blaze in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 4-2 victory.

Denver took over the lead for good with a goal by Troy Schwab at 4:56 in the first period. The Cutthroats had taken the advantage when Bloomington's Aaron Dawson got sent off for hooking. Brett Lutes provided the assist.

Denver was sparked by A.J. Gale, who tallied one goal. Gale scored on the power play 14:22 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Denver. The Cutthroats had gotten the advantage when the Blaze's Steve Makway was sent off for roughing. Schwab assisted on the tally.

Denver put 29 shots on net during the contest, more than the 20.4 it averages per game.

Denver additionally got points from Schwab, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Denver also got a goal from Brad Smyth as well. Other players who recorded assists for Denver were Gabe Gauthier, Ben Wilson, and Luke Fulghum, who contributed one a piece.

Bloomington was hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. By firing 44 shots on goal, the Blaze exceeded the 20.7 shots they average per game this year.

Bloomington was helped by Leo Thomas, who registered one goal. Thomas scored 9:11 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Denver. Makway provided the assist. Bloomington also got points from Makway, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Bloomington came via Kyle Bochek, Nicklas Lindberg, and Jon Booras, who each chipped in one.

Kieran Millan made 42 saves for the Cutthroats on 44 shots. Denver totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 3-for-6 on the power play. Pier-Olivier Pelletier recorded 25 saves for the Blaze. Bloomington registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
