The Quad City Mallards were firing on all cylinders against the Bloomington Blaze, and when the final buzzer sounded Mallards emerged with an 8-2 win.

Quad City got the win on the strength of a great game by Mike Hellyer, who had one goal and two assists. Hellyer scored 3:29 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Quad City. Mickey Lang provided the assist.

The Mallards pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 21 penalty minutes.

Quad City bested its season scoring average. The Mallards have scored at the pace of 3.0 goals per game during the current campaign.

Quad City additionally got points from Obi Aduba, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Lang, who also had one goal and one assist, Patrik Levesque, who also registered one goal and two assists, Anthony Perdicaro, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Jason Dixon, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Mike Stinziani also scored for Quad City. More assists for Quad City came via Shayne Toporowski, who had two and Bob Preece, Michael Monfredo, and Darren McMillan, who contributed one a piece.

By firing 37 shots on goal, Bloomington exceeded the 23.2 shots it averages per game this year.

The Blaze were helped by Dan Barczuk, who had one goal. Barczuk scored 5:50 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Bloomington also got a goal from Steve Makway as well. Other players who recorded assists for Bloomington were Nicolas Rioux, Travis Granbois, Kyle Bochek, and Nicklas Lindberg, who each chipped in one.

Quad City's Neil Conway stopped 35 shots out of the 37 that he faced. The Mallards registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Pier-Olivier Pelletier took the loss and made 11 saves before being replaced by Dan Dunn who made seven saves. Bloomington totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-7 on the power play.
