Missouri beats Bloomington 5-4 after comeback scare

The Bloomington Blaze tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Missouri Mavericks would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-4.

Missouri took a 4-1 lead during the second period, only to have Bloomington storm back on a Kyle Bochek goal 3:06 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

With 33 shots on target during the contest, the Mavericks exceeded the 23.9 shots they average per game this year.

Missouri was helped by John-Scott Dickson, who finished with one goal. Dickson scored on the power play 8:56 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Missouri. The Mavericks had gotten the advantage when the Blaze's Nicklas Lindberg was sent off for hooking. Jeff Pierce provided the assist. Missouri additionally got points from Andrew Courtney, who also had one goal and one assist. Brandon Smith also scored for Missouri. In addition, Missouri received assists from Kellen Tochkin, who had three and David Simoes, Kyle Hood, Kenton Miller, and Sebastien Thinel, who each chipped in one.

Missouri was unable to stop Bloomington from sending pucks towards the net, and the Blaze eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. Bloomington struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 26 penalty minutes for seven opposing power plays.

Bloomington also got points from Steve Makway, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Bloomington also got a goal from Sebastien Trudeau as well. More assists for Bloomington came via Nicolas Rioux, Aaron Dawson, Travis Granbois, Michael Trebish, and Matthew Larke, who contributed one a piece.

Mike Clemente rejected 31 shots on goal for the Mavericks. Missouri incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Pier-Olivier Pelletier recorded 28 saves for the Blaze. Bloomington registered three goals on seven power play opportunities.
