Missouri downs Bloomington, 5-2

Brandon Smith registered one point to lead the Missouri Mavericks to a 5-2 victory over the Bloomington Blaze.

The Missouri penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 18.0 minutes per game the Mavericks had been spending in the box. The 47 shots that Missouri put on net surpassed the Mavericks' average of 30.8 shots per game this season.

Missouri also got points from Brian Bicek, who also had one goal and one assist, Jeff Pierce, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Sebastien Thinel, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Kellen Tochkin also scored for Missouri. In addition, Missouri received assists from Mathieu Corbiel, who had two and David Simoes, Dave Pszenyczny, Matt Krug, and Jamie VanderVeeken, who each chipped in one.

Bloomington's offense operated below it season average. The Blaze average 4.6 goals per game. Bloomington's offense rang up 36 shots on Missouri's net. The Blaze were hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time.

Bloomington was helped by David Gilbert, who registered one goal. Gilbert scored on the power play 10:48 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Missouri. The Blaze had taken the advantage when the Mavericks' Colt King got sent off for slashing. Nicolas Rioux provided the assist. Bloomington also got a goal from Matthew Larke as well. Other players who recorded assists for Bloomington were Nicklas Lindberg, Tyler Gron, and Jesse Dudas, who contributed one a piece.

Corbiel rejected 34 shots on goal for Missouri. The Mavericks registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Pier-Olivier Pelletier made 42 saves for Bloomington on 47 shots. The Blaze registered two goals on six power play opportunities.
