Port Stanley beats Lambeth 5-4 after comeback scare

The Port Stanley Sailors survived a determined comeback attempt by the Lambeth Lancers on the way to a 5-4 win.

Port Stanley took a 5-3 lead during the third period, only to have Lambeth storm back on a Brandon Robbins goal 15:31 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

Tyler Beaulieu was all over the ice for the Sailors, as he finished with two goals in the win. Beaulieu found the back of the net on the power play 9:23 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Stanley and again while 4:23 into the second to make the score 2-1 Port Stanley.

Port Stanley forced the Lancers goalie JP Trudell to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

Port Stanley also got a goal from Tanner Turley as well. More assists for Port Stanley came via Ryan McDonnell, who had two and Austin Blais, Graham Silcox, Derek Finlay, Andrew Yurek, Luke McGuire, and Mark Brisson, who each chipped in one.

Lambeth's offense rang up 64 shots on the Sailors' net. The Lancers gave up more goals than its normal season average. Lambeth averages 2.5 goals allowed per game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

The Lancers were helped by Mitch Thomas, who registered one goal. Thomas scored 2:38 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Port Stanley. Nick West provided the assist. Carter Allen also scored for Lambeth. In addition, Lambeth received assists from Warren Hargraves, who had three and Josh Bumpus and Ryan Pennington, who contributed one a piece.

Ricky Corkum rejected 60 shots on goal for Port Stanley. The Sailors incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Trudell recorded 29 saves for Lambeth. The Lancers incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
