Polillo's big game bests Tavistock in 8-4 Burford win

The Burford Bulldogs' Guy Polillo had a big offensive game, scoring four goals and contributing one assist in his team's 8-4 win over the Tavistock Braves.

Polillo's first goal came 18:14 into the first period. He then added goals at 2:44 into the second, at 17:39 into the second, and at 17:38 into the third.

Tavistock was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as Burford was able to score four times while on the power play.

The Bulldogs forced the Braves goalie Taylor VanBockel to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Burford outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Bulldogs average 4.7 goals per contest. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Burford also got points from Adam Harris, who also had one goal and two assists. Burford also got a goal from Blaise Burtnick as well. In addition, Burford received assists from Dylan Sneath, who had two, Jamie Snow, who had four, and JJ Haroland, Peter Janeck, Cale Burbridge, and Scott Pennwarden, who contributed one a piece.

Tavistock's offense rang up 39 shots on Burford's net. The Braves could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 48 minutes in penalties during the game.

Tavistock was helped by Derek Cowing, who tallied two goals and one assist. Cowing scored the first of his two goals at 14:35 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Tavistock. Andrew Schacht assisted on the tally. Cowing's next tally made the score 4-3 Tavistock with 9:52 left in the second period. The Braves had gained a power play chance when Andrew Schunk was whistled for head contact. Schacht provided the assist. Tavistock additionally got points from Schacht, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Charlie Irwin also scored for Tavistock. Other players who recorded assists for Tavistock were James McCorquodale and Jake Mock, who each chipped in one.

Ben Beechey rejected 35 shots on goal for the Bulldogs. Burford incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Taylor VanBockel made 27 saves for Tavistock on 35 shots. The Braves registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
