Ayr rips Wellesley, 8-1

The Wellesley Applejacks had trouble finding ways to stop the Ayr Centennials, which beat Applejacks, 8-1.

Ayr got the win thanks to a great game by Jordan Eby, who had two goals and two assists. Eby scored the first of his two goals at 5:34 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ayr. Spencer Sweazy assisted on the tally. Eby's next tally made the score 4-0 Ayr with 17:34 left in the second period. Ben Poort picked up the assist.

Wellesley was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as the Centennials were able to score four times while on the power play.

Ayr made the Applejacks' goalies to work between the pipes, firing 42 shots and forcing 34 saves. Josh Heer made 28 stops and Corey Tuffnail made six. The Centennials' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Wellesley power plays. Ayr outdid its season average for goals scored. The Centennials have scored at the pace of 5.7 goals per game during the current campaign.

Ayr additionally got points from Adam Fisher, who also grabbed two goals and one assist, Sweazy, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Brandon Christopher, who also registered one goal and two assists, and Alex Mutton, who also had one goal and one assist. Declan Kaster also scored for Ayr. Other players who recorded assists for Ayr were Brett Gibson, who had two, Mike McKnight, who had three, and Connor McLeod and Nick Hirs, who contributed one a piece.

Wellesley did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Applejacks average 4.5 goals per game. Wellesley struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 28 penalty minutes for eight opposing power plays.

Wellesley also got a goal from Josh Herd as well. In addition, Wellesley received assists from Derek Lebold, who had one.

Mitch Figueirdo rejected 16 shots on goal for Ayr. The Centennials incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. For Ayr, McLeod was ejected from the game.
