Wellesley beats Burford 8-0 as Heer gains shutout

Josh Heer recorded a shutout against the Burford Bulldogs as the Wellesley Applejacks picked up an 8-0 win.

Wellesley got the win thanks to a great game by Brett MacDonald, who had two goals and two assists. MacDonald scored the first of his two goals at 19:52 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Wellesley. Josh Herd picked up the assist. MacDonald's next tally made the score 6-0 Wellesley with 11:01 left in the third period. Corey Way provided the assist.

The Applejacks forced Burford's netminders to work in net, finishing with 51 shots and forcing 43 saves. Don Davis made 30 stops and Ben Beechey made 13. Wellesley stifled the Bulldogs' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Applejacks found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Wellesley averages 4.5 goals per game.

Wellesley also got points from Way, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Devon Wagner, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Patrick Wiejak, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Wellesley also had goals scored by Coleton Madge, who had one and Tyler Eckert, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Wellesley were Mark Detzler, Shawn Fitzpatrick, and Cody Tapsell, who contributed one a piece and Michael Pollice and Luke Rose, who each chipped in two.

Burford made Applejacks' goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, getting 37 shots and forcing 37 saves. Heer made 37 stops and Corey Tuffnail made zero. The Bulldogs were held below their usual level of production. Burford averages 4.6 goals per game.

The Applejacks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Bulldogs incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
