Delhi wins tough contest against Wellesley, 5-3Wellesley Fri, Jan 04, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Delhi Travellers and the Wellesley Applejacks were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Delhi made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3. No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Jeremy Jacobs at 14:57 of the third period. Jacobs had two goals to lead the Travellers to victory. Delhi put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wellesley to score on any of its five power plays. Delhi additionally got points from Kelsey Vanyermen, who also registered one goal and one assist, Cody Stout, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Derek Friesen, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Delhi were Josh Bradshaw, Colin Streutker, Travis Harper, Dylan zero'Neill, Jordan Betzold, and Jamie Newell, who contributed one a piece. The Applejacks forced the Travellers goalie Nick Heath to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots. The defensemen of Wellesley were also effective in Delhi's zone, and came away with two goals. The Applejacks' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Wellesley finished with 26 penalty minutes. The Applejacks were helped by Cody Tapsell, who grabbed one goal. Tapsell scored 6:43 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Justin Lebold picked up the assist. Mark Detzler also scored for Wellesley. More assists for Wellesley came via Patrick Wiejak, who had one. The Travellers' Heath stopped 40 shots out of the 43 that he faced. Delhi incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Josh Heer made 25 saves for Wellesley on 30 shots. For the Applejacks, Jake Ariss was ejected from the game.
