Port Stanley holds on for 3-2 win against Exeter

The Exeter Hawks tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Port Stanley Sailors would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

Port Stanley made the score 3-1 on a goal by Dan Gordon at 18:00 in the third period, and Exeter got as close as 3-2 when Brodie Balcom scored 19:41 into the third period.

The Sailors were led by Gordon, who registered one goal.

Port Stanley excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Sailors forced the Hawks goalie Bryan Paolotto to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Port Stanley also got points from Andrew Yurek, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Derek Finlay also scored for Port Stanley. Other players who recorded assists for Port Stanley were Tyler Beaulieu, who had two and Drew Eaton, Luke McGuire, and Trevor Smith, who each chipped in one.

Exeter kept Port Stanley's goalie busy throughout the game, and Brandon Garner made 36 saves on 38 shots.

The Hawks were helped by Dylan Bedard, who grabbed one goal. Bedard scored 16:12 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Balcom assisted on the tally. Exeter additionally got points from Balcom, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Exeter came via Alex Deluce, who had one and Kalvin Thornton, who had two.

The Sailors incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Paolotto rejected 32 shots on goal for Exeter. The Hawks incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors. For Exeter, Bedard was ejected from the game.
