Tavistock falls to Delhi after surprising comebackSOJHL Fri, Dec 28, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Delhi Travellers climbed out of a two-goal hole to beat the Tavistock Braves, 3-2. Delhi never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Travellers trailed 2-0 after a power play goal by Tavistock's Charlie Malson at 17:52 in the first period. Delhi knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Brad Ward at 1:54 in the second period. The Travellers scored the game winner on the power play at 11:18 in the second period on a goal by Ward. The Braves' power play was ineffective against Delhi's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 8:51 into the third period. Twelve fighting penalties were dished out along with 11 game misconducts. The Travellers were often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and three majors for 29 minutes in penalty time. Delhi had been averaging 19.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Travellers were led by Derek Friesen, who registered one goal and one assist. Delhi also got points from Ward, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Jared Ebdon also scored for Delhi. In addition, Delhi received assists from Harrison McRobert, who had one and Josh Bradshaw, who had two. Tavistock racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and four majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. The Braves surpassed its season average of 24.0 penalty minutes per game. Tavistock kept Delhi's goalie busy throughout the game, and Joe Drexler made 42 saves on 44 shots. The Braves were helped by Josh Wagler, who grabbed one goal. Wagler scored 10:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Tavistock. Curtis Dotzert picked up the assist. More assists for Tavistock came via Jared Yantzi AP and Andrew Schacht, who each chipped in one. The Travellers registered one goal on six power play opportunities. For Delhi, Cody Stout, Jordan Betzold, and Taylor Hockley were ejected from the contest. Tavistock's Tim Parker stopped 22 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Team's Garrett Fisher, Nick Quehl, and Charlie Irwin were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
