Ayr takes care of Norfolk early, wins 16-1

A seven-goal first period deficit cost the Norfolk Rebels, which could not recover and fell to the Ayr Centennials, 16-1.

Connor McLeod had six goals and one assist to lead Ayr. McLeod notched his first tally 16:57 into the first period. He then added goals at 17:48 into the second, at 36 seconds into the third, at 8:06 into the third, at 11:24 into the third, and at 14:38 into the third.

Norfolk was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as the Centennials were able to score five times while on the power play.

Ayr excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Centennials forced the Rebels goalie Alex Tipping to work between the pipes, taking 69 shots. Ayr outdid its season average for goals scored. The Centennials average 5.6 goals per game.

Ayr also got points from Adam Fisher, who also racked up one goal and three assists, Dustin Scheer, who also registered two goals and two assists, Andrew Richard, who also had two goals and one assist, Declan Kaster, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Alex Mutton, who also had one goal and one assist, and Brady Wheelans, who also registered two goals and two assists. Hunter Moore also scored for Ayr. Other players who recorded assists for Ayr were Alex Richard, who had three, Jordan Eby, who had four, Ben Poort, who had five, and Spencer Sweazy and Nick Hirs, who contributed two a piece.

Norfolk could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game.

Mitch Figueirdo recorded 19 saves for Ayr. The Centennials ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. Alex Tipping made 53 saves for the Rebels on 69 shots.
