Delhi wins tough contest against Ayr, 4-3

The Delhi Travellers gutted out a close 4-3 win against the Ayr Centennials.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Taylor Hockley at 13:57 of the third period.

Delhi got the win thanks to a great game by Hockley, who had two goals and one assist. Hockley scored the first of his two goals at 17 seconds into the second period to make the score 3-1 Delhi. Travis Harper picked up the assist. Hockley's next tally made the score 4-3 Delhi with 6:03 left in the third period. Mike DeCoene assisted on the tally.

Ayr's power play was ineffective against the Travellers' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Delhi kept the Centennials' goalie busy throughout the game, and Bobby Brown made 32 saves on 36 shots.

Delhi additionally got points from Harper, who also had one goal and one assist. Delhi also got a goal from Jeremy Jacobs as well. More assists for Delhi came via Harrison McRobert, who had two and Colin Streutker and Kelsey Vanyermen, who contributed one a piece.

Ayr was held below its usual level of production. The Centennials average 5.1 goals per game. The Travellers were unable to stop Ayr from sending pucks towards the net, and the Centennials eventually piled up 45 shots on goal. Ayr struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 26 penalty minutes for eight opposing power plays.

The Centennials were helped by Connor McLeod, who grabbed one goal. McLeod scored 16:40 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Andrew Richard also scored for Ayr. Other players who recorded assists for Ayr were Ben Poort, Spencer Sweazy, and Declan Kaster, who each chipped in one.

Nick Heath made 42 saves for Delhi on 45 shots. The Travellers incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
