Wellesley vanquishes Tavistock in shootout, 5-4 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Wellesley Applejacks defeated the Tavistock Braves in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout.

Wellesley overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Applejacks was down 2-0 after a goal by Tavistock's Andrew Schacht at 8:59 in the first period. Wellesley tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Derek Cowing at 19:36 in the third period.

Troy Williams had one goal and two assists to lead the Applejacks. Williams scored 5:25 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Tavistock. Reid Denstedt assisted on the tally.

Wellesley's offense rang up 31 shots on the Braves' net.

Wellesley additionally got points from Coleton Madge, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Wellesley also got a goal from Josh Herd as well. In addition, Wellesley received assists from Derek Lebold and Patrick Wiejak, who contributed one a piece.

Tavistock forced the Applejacks goalie Josh Heer to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots.

The Braves were led by Charlie Malson, who grabbed two goals. Malson scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 2:08 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Tavistock. A delay of game penalty on Heer had put Tavistock on the power play. Jordan Ritsma picked up the assist. Malson's next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 17:27 left in the third period. Nick Quehl provided the assist. Tavistock also got points from Cowing, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Tavistock came via James McCorquodale and Jake Mock, who each chipped in one.

Josh Heer made 39 saves for Wellesley on 42 shots. The Applejacks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Tim Parker rejected 26 shots on goal for the Braves. Tavistock incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Braves ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Quehl was ejected from the game.
