Lucan downs North Middlesex, 8-5

The Lucan Irish won 8-5 over the North Middlesex Stars.

Lucan forced North Middlesex's goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, taking 36 shots and forcing 28 saves. Ryan Swartzentruber made 11 stops and Bobby Raine made 17. The Irish surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Lucan has scored at the pace of 4.1 goals per game during the current campaign. The Irish were held back by their power play unit, which tallied two goals on 11 chances.

Lucan was led by Colin Nancekivell, who had two goals and two assists. Nancekivell scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 3:32 into the second period to make the score 3-0 Lucan. A high sticking penalty on Nolan Vlasman had put the Irish on the power play. Shane Guentner picked up the assist. Nancekivell's next tally on the power play made the score 8-5 Lucan with 1:51 left in the third period. Nick Moniz provided the assist. Lucan also got points from Mitch Smith, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Moniz, who also finished with two goals and one assist, and Cam Bond, who also registered one goal and one assist. Colin Hartwick also scored for Lucan. More assists for Lucan came via Cullen Harper and Matt Curtis, who each chipped in one.

The Stars made Irish's goalies to work between the pipes, racking up 33 shots and forcing 28 saves. Joseph Frustaglio made 18 stops and Dylan Hoover made 10. North Middlesex bested its season scoring average. This season, the Stars average 2.9 goals per contest. North Middlesex was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to two goals off of nine man advantages. The Stars' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as North Middlesex finished with 50 penalty minutes.

The Stars were led by Mike Sharpe, who racked up two goals and two assists. Sharpe scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 1:14 into the third period to make the score 5-2 Lucan. North Middlesex had gotten the advantage when Lucan's Curtis was sent off for hooking. Brady Smith (APM) assisted on the tally. Sharpe's next tally on the power play made the score 6-3 Lucan with 11:14 left in the third period. Spencer Kading provided the assist. Others who scored for North Middlesex included Tommy Prokes, who had one and Ben Lawton, who had two. In addition, North Middlesex received assists from Trevor Perrie, Brock Pinnell, and Jake Alkins, who contributed one a piece.

The Irish incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
