Mt.Brydges wins tough contest against Lucan, 5-3

The Mt.Brydges Bulldogs and the Lucan Irish were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Mt.Brydges made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

The Bulldogs gained the winning advantage on a goal by Mike Frizzell 15:48 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

David Wade was all over the ice for Mt.Brydges, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Wade scored the first of his two goals at 2:55 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Mt.Brydges. Matt Dacosta picked up the assist. Wade's next tally made the score 5-3 Mt.Brydges with 4:58 left in the third period. Frizzell provided the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 13:21 into the second period. Ten fighting penalties were dished out along with nine game misconducts.

The Bulldogs racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and three majors for 37 minutes in penalty time. Mt.Brydges surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. The Bulldogs kept Lucan's goalie busy throughout the game, and Joseph Frustaglio made 34 saves on 39 shots.

Mt.Brydges additionally got points from Frizzell, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Sean Candler also scored for Mt.Brydges. Other players who recorded assists for Mt.Brydges were Sam MacGee and Ryan Battersby, who contributed one a piece.

The Irish were often in penalty trouble, totaling nine minors and four majors for 38 minutes in penalty time. Lucan had been averaging 29.0 minutes in penalties per game. Mt.Brydges was unable to stop the Irish from sending pucks towards the net, and Lucan eventually piled up 52 shots on goal.

The Irish were helped by Dylan Symons, who had one goal. Symons scored 12:03 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Dylan Murray picked up the assist. Lucan also got points from Murray, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Lucan also got a goal from Mitch Smith as well. In addition, Lucan received assists from Mitch Morin, Keiron Cobban, and Matt Curtis, who each chipped in one.

The Bulldogs' Eric Steinman stopped 49 shots out of the 52 that he faced. Mt.Brydges registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. For the Bulldogs, Tyler Lockwood, Spencer Wilson, and Tony Lindner were ejected from the contest. Lucan registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. Team's Cobban, Mitch Read, Wes Huston, and Dylan Moss were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
