Hagersville shrugs off penalties, upends Norfolk, 5-1

The Norfolk Rebels failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Hagersville Hawks shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-1.

Hagersville was paced by Dan Stewart, who finished with one goal. Stewart scored short handed 2:22 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Hagersville. The Hawks played down a man on Jacob Brown's kneeing. Brad Hornby picked up the assist.

Hagersville racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. The Hawks surpassed its season average of 25.0 penalty minutes per game. Hagersville made Norfolk's netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, getting 37 shots and forcing 32 saves. Alex Tipping made 28 stops and Jason Miller made four.

Hagersville additionally got points from Jesse Ross, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Hagersville also got a goal from Mitch Green as well. In addition, Hagersville received assists from Hayden Baird, who had one and Deacan Krause, who had three.

The Rebels were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to one goal off of nine man advantages.

Norfolk was led by Pat McElhone, who scored the team's only goal. McElhone scored on the power play 19:26 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Rebels had gotten the advantage when the Hawks' Baird was sent off for tripping. Ricky Johnston provided the assist.

Justin Paccheco took the win and made 10 saves before being replaced by Matt Murphy who made 11 saves. Hagersville registered two goals on four power play opportunities. For the Hawks, Kyle Parsons was ejected from the game. Norfolk ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. The Rebels ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brayden Dickinson was ejected from the game.
